The Crawshaw Collection:

A Bold New Addition

We, as a Trust, had to give consideration to where we were taking the Coach House. Our conclusion was 'this opportunity was too good to pass up', It does present a whole lot of  logistical issues. How and where do we begin to do justice to this collection?

We saw the development of Leisureville as a catalyst in our desire to build onto the horse-drawn era, to depict the historic and continuing importance of farming and the agricultural history of Feilding and the districts of the Manawatu.

The current economic environment may slow the development of Leisureville in the short term. This will not take away the opportunity Feilding and the districts of the Manawatu have in highlighting the role this industry has played in New Zealand through the years.

We will be starting our exhibit of the Crawshaw Collection by displaying one or two early tractors at the western end of the Guy Gallery where we will emphasise the transition from the horse-drawn era to the first steps into mechanisation. This is a very exciting development bringing the mechanical age to the interest of a younger generation of visitors to the museum.

There is still much to do in developing room to do justice to this very valuable collection. BH

Early March saw the members of the MHVC Trust sign an agreement with Ferg Crawshaw to receive, as a         donation, his world ranked collection of seventeen John Deere tractors and   associated memorabilia. You may ask, where do tractors fit into the horse-drawn era ? In a word they don't - but they do continue the progression of   agriculture into the age of mechanisation.

Ferg is a highly respected member of the 'Manawatu Vintage Machinery Club' who has been collecting John Deere tractors for more years than he dares to remember. His collection has been  restored and preserved in magnificent condition.
